What is Botox for hyperhidrosis ? Botox, also known as botulinum toxin, is a popular treatment option for hyperhidrosis, a condition characterized by excessive sweating. Botox works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands, thereby reducing excessive sweating. Before this treatment the Minor test should be performed. ‘Minor’s Test’ Tincture of iodine is applied to the skin and allowed to air-dry. After drying, the area is dusted with cornstarch or potato flour. When sweat reaches the surface of the skin, the starch and iodine combine, causing a dramatic color change (yellow → dark blue), allowing sweat production to be easily seen.
